What’s Operation Sunshine? This volunteer-run charity brings a ray of hope to women and children displaced by domestic violence.  Operation Sunshine  supply essential items to those fleeing or displaced by domestic violence, including clothes, hygiene items, toys and more.

Mediserve has partnered with Operation Sunshine for a long time, and recently we had another opportunity to support this incredible initiative.

Operation Sunshine were hosting a ‘trivia night’ fundraiser, run by the great team at Bamboozled Quizmasters.  Who doesn’t love a trivia night?  Of course, Mediserve were happy to donate to offset operating costs for the fundraiser, and we were also happy to be able to attend the trivia night ourselves!

The Mediserve team had an absolute blast – Operation Sunshine organised a really fun night, with raffles, a silent auction, and of course trivia questions (quite a few of which had us scratching our heads - Bamzooled indeed).  All up, over 100 attended. Most importantly, Operation Sunshine raised over $6,000 to support their work!

The Operation Sunshine team were so grateful for our support they send us this beautiful letter of appreciation and a certificate.

Meet Ted & Flo, parents of one of our directors, Miles Cue

Whether in the Philippines, Australia or from distant parts of the world, the couple Flo and Ted Cue have touched the lives of so many people for so many years by giving unconditional help to those in need in whatever capacity they could muster. Yet, they have not done these in pursuit of self recognition but remained humble and offered it all for the glory of God. Flo and Ted have been deeply involved with people and the community such that one way or the other, their works are known by most, but the couple would just brush it aside and take it as nothing from the ordinary.

They migrated to Australia in mid 70's and started the Feast of Sto Nino Celebration when they arrived in Albany in 1975. FIo and Ted did the same in Perth in 1987 where they moved to be with their children to pursue their higher education.

Over the years, they helped bring spiritual speakers and healing priests, mostly from the Philippines to Perth and surrounds with the help of Damayang Filpino, Inc., its officers, members and supporters. Ted was a former president.

Ted serves as Acolyte and Minister of the Eucharist and Flo is rostered as liturgical reader both at the Holy Family Church in Como. Ted is Head Servant of Sto Padre Pio Prayer Group. For quite number of years FIo has been a volunteer of Operation Rainbow Australia, Inc. whose volunteer doctors and nurses have been doing missions to the Philippines doing free reconstructive surgeries for children with cleft lip and cleft palate.

Flo and Ted have been supporters to a host of organisations and their activities where they have met a lot of people from all walks of life. There have been number of instances where Flo and Ted have been called even late at night to give assistance to people having problems and even travel several miles to reach out and extend the needed help. No hesitation for Flo and Ted but pure-warm heart utmost sincerity and a lot of prayer driving them to do the things that they do. For this couple, the good of mankind no matter how small their contribution might be, is well worth it, they would say.

Nonetheless, the telephone continues to ring and rest assured that help is at hand.

Sunshine Packs give children essential and comfort items as they transition into a new living environment.

The Smith Family are an independent charity that focus on improving educational outcomes for kids. They work with thousands of disadvantaged children and their families.

Mediserve loves supporting great initiatives like The Smith Family. What's especially gratifying is when we hear how we've helped! Mediserve supports 20 children in The Smith Family.

Mediserve's support of The Smith Family helps them run learning programs such as:

Hi Ellie, could you introduce yourself?

My name is Ellie, I'm a registered nurse originally from the Central Coast of New South Wales and I have been working and traveling around Australia for the last three years.

So after I did my uni degree I ended up working in the emergency department at Gosford hospital, where I stayed for seven years before deciding to change things up and hit the road.

I had never planned to be an emergency nurse, but I found the team really awesome very supportive of one another. The opportunities to expand my skill set was really enjoyable and the pace of work and the variety was something that pulled me in and kept me there!

Where have you worked in rural Australia?

I have worked in La Trobe, Tasmania; Taree, NSW; Alpha, Queensland; Nhulunbuy, NT; Roebourne, Mullewa, Nannup in WA; Kangaroo Island in SA; and Alice Springs, NT.

What do you love about rural & remote Australia?

The beauty that is all around you! I enjoy escaping the hustle and bustle of the city now, and really love being able to have work take me to places that are just surrounded in nature. I'm becoming very fond of the red dirt and the landscape that is surrounding where you work.

Why did you choose to become a rural/remote nurse?

Initially I wanted to do some exploring around Australia, there was a lot of states I'd never been to. I didn't have a bucket of cash, and so nursing on the road as I was traveling was a way to pay for the traveling, really. But I soon found that I really enjoyed the balance of working and traveling.

Work took me to some places that I would never have been to otherwise - towns I would have skipped through, and ended staying there for six weeks for work. It allowed me to appreciate  that town and that spot in Australia a lot more. You get to understand the lay of the land, and that little part of the country, a lot more than if you've just got your tourist hat on and drive through in a day or two.

I think also traveling full-time is quite tiring, sounds really silly to say, but constantly planning where you're going to go, what you're going to do. So being able to switch in and out of that, and put my 'work' hat on and be able to work for a bit allows me to sit back and reset and then get excited for the next leg of travel. And you get all the hot tips from the locals - they tell you where everything is.

How did Mediserve help you achieve your goal? What assistance did they provide?

I think the ease of it really caught me by surprise. I was a little bit fearful when we hit the road that I wouldn't be able to travel and work, and make it work. So Mediserve have been great with helping me line up work as I've been traveling. Just telling them which direction I'm heading in and then letting them do all the legwork of finding out where has availability and saying, "there are three hospitals that want you, where do you want to work?" Having the options just placed before you made it really easy.

With every contract they sorted out the travel to and from, and the accommodation. They took care of all the logistics behind getting to the contract and where I was staying. "This is how you're getting there, this is where you're staying, this is who you'll see at the hospital." Very seamless.

Were there any challenges that came up that Mediserve helped you with?

We were heading up to do a Cape York adventure, and then our engine blew up in our car! So we were stuck there, and I hadn't planned to work in Alpha, Queensland. I didn't have any work lined up, needed to make a lot of cash quickly to pay for the engine so we could get back on the road.

I called Mediserve, told them what had happened, and within a week I had a contract lined up and I was working! Even in that situation, they were able to help me get work to be able to pay for the engine. That was very helpful!

What was it like working closely with a smaller community?

It's always been an enjoyable experience, jumping in to working in a hospital setting. In small communities you get to know who's who really quickly and how everyone's connected to each other. Getting invited on mail runs in the outback, and hike down in Tassie, but they've always been very welcoming and inclusive.

Did working as a remote/rural nurse broaden your professional experience?

Very much so! It was very different from tertiary hospitals. Someone comes in, and it's you and one other nurse and there's no doctor on site, you're stretched to include assessment skills that you've never previously had to include. You find that you learn a lot more because you have to, so that you can care for whoever needs help and whatever comes through the door.  

A really simple thing, such as ear and eye assessment in the hospital -  if someone came in with a sick kid with some sore ears you'd send them down to the ear room and the doctor would assess them behind a close door. You'd never see what happens. But [as a rural nurse you may be] required to assess a child's ear and work out what's going on inside, and assess their eyes, and even a more thorough breathing respiratory assessment is often required as well.  I think in a lot of rural settings they use telehealth -  so you are the ears and the eyes of the doctor, you've got to really broaden and expand your assessment and research skills.

Practically I've learned how to suture, which was something I'd never previously needed to know how to do. Even just coordinating patient retrievals and getting people out when they need to get out to bigger facilities is something as well that I've never previously done.

Do rural & remote patients differ from patients in urban areas?

Yes and no. I think I find that people in rural and remote setting tend to be sicker when they come in. People in metro settings will often go to the hospital for the slightest things and expect a streamline of services - imaging, pathology, medications, assessment - they can all be done.

But in a lot of rural and remote settings you don't have patient imaging; you may not have the facilities to process bloods; and so the people who live and work there are aware of what going to hospital might mean. They often they put off going just in case it gets better by itself. So often you'd have people come into the hospital who were sicker than you were used to seeing. Caring for those people within those settings where you're not able to take their bloods and see what their their levels are because you don't have the facilities to do that - really, you've got to adapt to what you've got in each facility to be able to care for them as well as you can.

What were the challenges of rural nursing?

For me the challenges have been broadening my scope. That was a little bit scary at first, to realise that the buck stopped with me.  The time factor is a big thing too, but I think you do get used to that and you take it into account with your assessment skills. You learn quickly when people need to be retrieved out, as opposed to 'sit and wait' to see if they improve.

Being socially isolated from friends and family was a tricky one.

Would you recommend Mediserve as a rural nursing agency?

I would recommend Mediserve to other nurses. As an agency they're great!

If I ever do a contract with them I find that they they do get back to you, their communications great, their organisation of your travel is great. Can't fault them!

Tell us about your background as a nurse.

Ellie: I've been a registered nurse since 2013, and I've been working ED for the last 10 years. I’ve been working rural & remote nursing for the last two and a half years.

Kimberly: I've been an EEN for nearly 5 years, and I'm 16 days away from completing my RN! I've worked mainly in aged care & aboriginal remote communities.

Pya: I've been a registered nurse for 6 years. For the last 12 months I've been doing agency nursing in Australia.

Where have you worked as a rural/remote nurse in Australia?

Ellie: I've worked in La Trobe, Tasmania; Taree, NSW; Alpha, Queensland; Nhulunbuy, NT; Roebourne, Mullewa, Nannup in WA; Kangaroo Island in SA.

Kimberly: Kyabram, Swan Hill, Stawell, Bendigo and Warnambool in Victoria; Nowra and Lithgow in NSW; Doomadgee QLD; Wadeye and Kaltukatjara in the Northern Territory; Broome and Derby in WA. I'll be heading to Borroloola & Urapuntja in the Northern Territory too.

Pya: Mackay, Rockhampton and Kingaroy in Queensland; Launceston in Tasmania.

Why did you decide to become a rural/remote nurse?

Ellie: I wanted to travel around Australia with my family - my husband and kids (5 and 6 years old) and our dog.  I have been able to fund our travels while working along the way. For me, rural and remote nursing was originally a means to travel Australia. I've experienced life and nursing in all different parts of the country.

Kimberly: I wanted more than just the "orthodox" nursing life. I am a gypsy at heart, I thrive on spontaneity and I adapt to new places like a chameleon. I love meeting new people, having the option to choose where to travel and when to work - and of the course the chance to make incredible money when possible!

Pya: I really wanted to be able to explore Australia, while working at the same time!

What do you enjoy about being a rural/remote nurse?

Ellie: The variety of work places and locations, stretching myself to learn new skills, and experiencing life in different parts of this beautiful country!

Kimberly: I love the travel, I love the amazing places in our beautiful, rugged country. The places I've visited, the friends I've made - they are all lifelong memories and experiences.

Pya: I love being able to explore the town I'm working in, and meeting new people.

What's nursing in Australia like? Australia is a beautiful country, with everything from multicultural cities with great food and nightlife, to the jaw-dropping natural beauty of the outback, to some of the best beaches in the world. It also has an advanced economy, lots of employment opportunities, and a world-class health care system.

Australia is a popular tourist and immigration destination for good reason. So how can you work as a nurse in Australia? What's nursing like in Australia? How does it compare to places like the UK? It's a big move, but fortunately there's a clear path.

What's the healthcare system like in Australia?

Australia has a world-class universal healthcare system, but of course no system is perfect. It's helpful to compare nursing in Australia to a country with a similar healthcare system - the United Kingdom.

In Australia, the nurse to patient ratio varies, but in the state of Victoria (where Melbourne is located), Queensland (where Brisbane is located) and the Australian Capital Territory the minimum nurse to patient ratios in public hospitals for general medicine patients in the ward is 1:4 for morning and afternoon shift and up to 1:8 for night shift. Not all states have mandated patient to nurse ratios, but it seems most states want it.

In the UK, the NHS has resisted moves to have mandated nurse to patient ratios. So in general, your workload will not be as heavy in Australia. Of course, different hospitals and specialties have their own challenges, and may have larger than average caseloads. In rural areas, you may not have access to the resources and staff you would in a metropolitan hospital.

Private healthcare is more common in Australia, with many Australians taking out private health insurance so they have more choice of hospitals, doctors and shortened waiting times.

Australia generally has longer wait times for elective or non-emergency surgery, but better cancer and heart attack outcomes.

Requirements for nursing in Australia

Qualification assessment

To work as a nurse in Australia, you'll need a Bachelor of Nursing. Australia has required RNs to have a degree since the 90s.

If you've completed your education as a nurse outside of Australia, and you're migrating to Australia to work as a nurse or midwife, you'll need to have your qualifications assessed by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) to make sure they comply with Australian standards for nursing education.

Basically, if you have a degree in nursing from Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States (that is, an English-speaking country) and hold registration as a registered nurse in your home country, then you only need to apply for a Full Skills Assessment. It's not a face-to-face test, you'll need to submit your education documents, proof of registration as a nurse, proof you've worked as a nurse overseas, and identity documents. You do this online, pay the fee, and wait for the results. As long as you meet the criteria, you'll be approved.

If you're from New Zealand, the process is similar but shortened. It's called the Modified Skills Assessment.

If you don't meet the above criteria, your assessment may lead to you being asked to take a bridging course in an Australian university. This means even though you may have a number of years experience overseas, you will still need to complete further studies in Australia. The bridging courses could be 12 to 18 months, or shorter, depending on ANMAC's assessment. Since you would essentially be on a student visa in Australia, you will need to consider the financial commitments of studying abroad, such as education costs, food, housing, transport and so on.

In addition, if you're from a non-English speaking country, you'll need to pass an English competency test such as IELTS.

Professional registration

So you have completed all the steps needed with ANMAC. Does this mean you are registered nurse now? Almost.

ANMAC don't actually register nurses, they assess qualifications. With your approved qualification in hand, you can now apply to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), which is a part of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). For the purposes of this post, NMBA and AHPRA are the same thing.

The application to AHPRA includes providing personal and professional details, such as the skills assessment outcome and English language proficiency test results (if necessary). You'll need to pay the registration fee.

Then, you'll need to wait a little. Applications can take a few months, so be patient.

Once you're approved, you're set to work as a registered nurse in Australia! Note, this registration needs to be reviewed annually.

Visas for nursing in Australia

If you are applying to work in Australia, you'll find there is a dizzying number of visa paths. It's outside the scope of this blog post to discuss all the visa details, so we'd recommend the simpler option - talk to us at Mediserve, we may be able to sponsor your visa.

Visa sponsorship

Mediserve has the ability to provide temporary sponsorship. There's a few things we need to know though, such as:

• do you have nurse work experience (a minimum of 1-2 years)?
• is the position in a nursing area of need, such as emergency, or midwifery? Due to shortages, even general medical/surgical nurses are being sponsored because of the skill shortage.
• are you flexible to work around Australia where the need is greatest?
• are you highly professional, and do you have strong character and professional references?

If you meet the above criteria, we may be able to help sponsor you.

So you've decided you want to move to Australia and work as a nurse - what's the employment situation for nurses in Australia? What job opportunities are available?

Nursing is a fantastic career in Australia, with job opportunities available in both the public and private sectors. Nurses can work in hospitals, aged care facilities, GP clinics or specialist practices. There is a high demand for nurses in Australia, particularly in regional areas.

Overall, there are plenty of job opportunities available for nurses in Australia - especially those with experience and specialty qualifications. Increasing demand for healthcare services means that new positions often become available quickly; making it easy to find employment if you’re looking to start your Australian career as a nurse soon!

Common roles for nursing in Australia

Some of the common nursing roles in Australia include:

1. Registered Nurse (RN): RNs provide direct patient care and work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, aged care facilities, and community health centers.
2. Enrolled Nurse (EN): ENs work under the supervision of RNs and assist with patient care and administration tasks. They may work in similar settings as RNs.
3. Nurse Practitioner (NP): NPs have advanced training and can diagnose and treat patients, prescribe medication, and refer patients to other healthcare professionals. They may work in primary care or specialty clinics.
4. Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS): CNSs have advanced training in a particular area of nursing, such as oncology, pediatrics, or critical care. They provide expert advice and support to other nurses and may work in hospitals or clinics.
5. Nurse Educator: Nurse Educators teach and train other nurses and nursing students in academic or clinical settings.
6. Nurse Researcher: Nurse Researchers conduct research studies to improve patient care and outcomes.

Hi Ponee, could you introduce yourself and tell us how long you've been doing rural nursing?

Hi I'm Ponee, originally from Malaysia and came out to do my nursing at St. Vinnies in Sydney. I came out to do my nursing in ‘71, and then joined Mediserve in 2002 and I think that's the best thing I've done. So it's 23 years now doing rural and remote work.

Where have you worked in rural Australia?

23 years now doing rural remote work. I’ve worked in every state bar Victoria. So it's taken me far north up the Torres, all of the Torres; as far east as Palm Island; I've done WA, but also Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling Islands. Down south as far as Tasmania.

What do you love about remote & rural nursing in Australia?

The autonomy. The closeness that one gets with the community, the beautiful friendships you can have with the community. When you've got extra staff, you can go out with them; when they take you bush bashing; when they take you to collect their bush medicine. That sort of bond, that's the acceptance of you as a professional for what you're doing for them.

Why did you choose to become a rural/remote nurse?

I was working in Brisbane, in the post-anaesthetic unit. One of the girls there was talking to me about rural nursing and... oh, nice little bells rang in my head. I thought, "that's something I would like to try". So I started rural remote nursing. That was the beginning of my rural experience, and I've never looked back.

How did Mediserve help you achieve your goal of rural nursing? What assistance did they provide?

They sent us out a list of what's available, but it's also up to me to say where I want to go when I want to go and for how long. So they've been accommodating to my needs, so they're more accommodating in what I want. So they've been very accommodating in that and they know what I've want. a couple of times when I've had emergency things that my daughter has been sick and I've had to fly back. They've been very accommodating in that sense as well.

What was it like working closely with a smaller community?

I think the fact that you can get closer with the community. If you have a bond with the community, you can achieve that rapport with the community. I think that even with other nurses, you form bonds with them, so that they become friends to you even when you leave the community.

How did it broaden your professional experience?

The things you do, you wouldn't do in an urban area where you've got a doctor. You know, you're doing much more on your own. You might not know they're pregnant until they present to your door. You might have an imminent delivery that you might not know about, and you might not be a midwife. I'm not a midwife! So you keep on doing it until you get it done.

What range of patients did you care for, and how did they differ from the city?

A lot more indigenous. But I would like to think in a city, a lot of them, would have been to a GP somewhere along the line. Not necessarily a lot of them, most of them would have had GP access somewhere along the line. Therefore, with rural and remote patients, you might not know their history. They'll come without their medications, all of that.

What were the challenges of rural nursing?

Being on your own away from your family is the downside. You've only got one store that sells everything.

Would you recommend Mediserve to other nurses?

Yes. If I didn't like it, would I have stayed that long? Miles will kill me for telling... He’s true to his word. But they also have to put something back in the community. Christmas time, anything I need for the community, for the kids or for any equipment, any fundraiser that I'm doing, they've always supported me.

Each year Mediserve Nursing Agency support the Perth Special Children’s Christmas Party. This support provides invitations for local children from Perth who are suffering from life- threatening illnesses, special needs, disabilities and/or are victims of trauma/abuse, to attend WA’s biggest charity event.

Over 2000 children attend this Mini-Disneyland Christmas party at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, and are nominated by over 200 local charities like Make a Wish, PMH and the Leukaemia Foundation.

The goal is simple: To make these special children feel like the lucky ones for a change. The children are treated to an all day stage show and entertainment, face-painting, carnival rides and activities, loads of yummy food & drink and the highlight: Santa’s Toy Workshop, where each child receives 2-3 amazing Christmas presents to take home as they get to meet Santa and have a photo shoot.

The UQ School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work’s aspiration is that no student of outstanding quality with the desire to study nursing should be inhibited from attending UQ by reasons of funding. One of the major hurdles for financially-disadvantaged students is the cost of living while undertaking a full-time nursing degree with a fulltime load of teaching and clinical placement hours.  As a consequence, many students attempt to juggle significant paid work commitments alongside full-time enrolment with the consequence that they might not be able to complete their degree.

Additionally the University of Queensland is committed to boosting Australia’s regional and rural health workforce. UQ has been successful in attracting federal funding for a University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) for southern Queensland that will boost clinical training in rural Australia. Training facilities like UDRH are essential to the regional health workforce of the future. UDHR will support current health workforce priorities in regional southern Queensland, and expand support for clinical student placements for nursing.

Our aim is to attract scholarships supported by the community with the primary focus of providing funds to assist with the living expenses of identified students during the period of their courses. Some of these students will be placed in regional areas. Supporting high quality regional and rural health training is not only an important way to address rural health workforce shortages, but also maintain and improve overall services in rural and remote Australia.

The Gift

Mediserve  gift will support one student per year who identifies themselves as indigenous, from a regional or remote background that can demonstrate financial need

Mediserve Indigenous Nursing Bursary  awarded by the University of Southern Queensland in 2018

The Mediserve Indigenous Nursing Bursary 2018 shall be awarded to the student who best meets the following eligibility requirements. The student must:

• Identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent;
• Be enrolled in the third year of the Bachelor of Nursing program; and
• Have achieved a GPA in the Bachelor of Nursing program of 5.0 or higher

Your decision to reach out and offer support through our Christmas Appeal will mean that we can be there for many other families like Amy's. Together we can give HOPE where it's needed most.

Your Christmas cheer can help put food in empty kitchen cupboards and organise presents for children. Christmas comfort can be provided through care and counselling. And a Christmas cook-up will mean our volunteers can serve hearty meals to people who would otherwise be hungry and alone.

Your generous gift allows ICV to continue supporting Indigenous communities by delivering hands-on help through skilled volunteers. ICV works by invitation only, and in partnership with communities. This approach is unique and it works, because when communities own and drive their development they are much more likely to succeed.

Communities like remote Aputula, NT {located south of Alice Springs) who approached us with a bold vision to promote healthier lifestyles in the area. Aputula took on the management of a local building and started the 'Aputula Aboriginal Achievers Club' to run a range of health-focused membership programs, including education, health promotion, art classes and a sports club. ICV volunteer Wendy travelled to Aputula to assist in developing rules and regulations for the use of the building, along with structures for the programs. During her visit Wendy received plenty of support and input from the enthusiastic community and made some friends for life.

There are many more communities just like Aputula who are ready to take control of their future. With your help, we can make their dreams a reality.

HKSA is a state based charitable organisation which supports the children and families in South Australia who are affected by Childhood Heart Disease (CHD) and heart defects. Every week in South Australia three families are told their child has a heart defect. Around 50 per cent of children diagnosed with heart disease require surgery to correct the defect, meaning families must travel to Melbourne with their critically-ill child for life giving surgery. CHD is the greatest cause of infant death under the age of one in Australia.

We provide support to more than 400 families each year and help them through what is often the most difficult time in their lives. These families benefit from many services including support from our family support coordinators, hospital visits, travel assistance, support information and referrals, coffee mornings, playgroups, teen camps and many more services that let these families know they have a constant support network. HeartKids is the only charity solely focused on all aspects of CHD.

Critically, we are also committed to raising awareness and funding for research into causes of CHD and heart defects and much needed cures.

DAIWS  provides culturally appropriate services in our communities through Crisis accommodation,  education,  and healing programs to decrease incidents of all kinds of violence to enable families to live peaceful, sustainable, happy and resilient lives.

DAIWS is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community service committed to providing culturally appropriate, holistic, caring and innovative services with support from other organisations and community members.

DAIWS has been operating since 1986, it is the only Aboriginal managed Domestic Violence Service in the N.T.  It is governed by 7 Aboriginal women on the Management Committee, and has a membership of 46 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

Parkerville Children and Youth Care

One in four girls and one in six boys in Australia will suffer some form of abuse (emotional, physical, sexual or neglect) before they reach 18 years of age. Trauma from this abuse affects their brain’s developmental pathways, often resulting in cognitive, emotional or physical disability. If left untreated, these children will carry their disability for the rest of their lives.

Established in 1903, Parkerville Children and Youth Care has been caring for Western Australia’s most vulnerable children and youth for over a century. Overtime the organisation has evolved from an orphanage to a specialist provider of programmes and services for children, youth, and their families, who have suffered trauma from abuse.

Parkerville now works with more than 1800 children annually, providing therapeutic services and programmes throughout the Perth metropolitan area and the WA Wheatbelt and Murchison regions. In 2011 Parkerville children and Youth Care opened the George Jones Child Advocacy Centre (CAC), introducing the innovative CAC model to Australia for the first time.
